Arnis is an ancient martial art from the Philippines. A unique system
where students learn the application of sticks and edged weapons before
the empty hand system of Dumog. If you are looking for a practical
and exciting weapons and open hand system Arnis Alambra is it.
What benefits will I receive?
How fast can I progress?
Jiu-Jitsu and Arnis are not something that you will pick up in
one or two easy lessons. To have a basic grasp of the fundamentals
generally takes up to six months.
Progression from white belt to black belt depends solely on the
individual.
What are classes like and what will I learn?
Students
should arrive 10-15 minutes early to get ready for class. Students
are encouraged to choose the classes which only interest you. You
will be assigned a training partner to work with for that class,
or part of that class. Classes include curriculum / unarmed self-defense
class, grappling class, and weapons class (Arnis). These classes
include conditioning exercises, stretching, drills, partner drills,
and violent confrontation theory. For those who are interested we include full-contact stick fighting.
There are no choreographed sequences (Kata, Forms or Patterns).
the techniques within the curriculum do not require you to stretch
and warm up before executing them, because that does not reflect
the real world. However, we realize that there are more victims
of poor fitness than violence so callisthenics and stretching are
a small part of our
routine.
As well, during your training other instructors from other martial
arts will come to give seminars on their specialized fields, and
many students are from other martial arts as well, so you will be
benefited with a large variety of body types and sizes, and different
level of skill to work out with.
